Sandeep Jandu
Sandeep earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). After graduating, he spent several years working as a technician in Dr. Lakshmi Santhanam’s lab at Johns Hopkins University investigating cardiovascular disease mechanisms in a translational model.
Since joining the Riffell Lab as a PhD student, Sandeep has been excited to explore how neuroethology interfaces with its context in the natural world. His project focuses on how mosquitoes detect and process odors emitted by plants, and how this plays a role in the mosquitoes’ ability to locate nectar — an essential part of their diet. Outside of lab, Sandeep loves hiking, noodling around on guitar and synthesizer, and finding random projects to get stuck into.
